At Forest Village Kindergarten — our forest school nursery in Morden, Merton — children spend as much time as possible outdoors in all weathers. Having the right kit makes a huge difference to their comfort and enjoyment at our outdoor nursery in SM4, South London. Furthermore, well-equipped children are happier, more confident and able to join in every activity whatever the season.
🌧️ Waterproofs & Wellies — Essential Every Day
- Waterproof jacket — a proper rain jacket, not just a shower-resistant coat. Children go out in all weathers.
- Waterproof trousers — essential for mud kitchen, digging, water play and wet grass. We highly recommend these.
- Wellington boots — please send a pair to keep at nursery. Label them clearly.
- Warm layers underneath — in autumn and winter, thermal base layers make a big difference.
☀️ Summer Kit
- Sun hat — wide brimmed if possible. Children spend long periods outside in summer.
- Sun cream — we provide sun cream at nursery. However, please apply sun cream at home before drop-off on sunny days as we go outside first thing in the morning.
- Light layers — mornings can be cool even in summer.
- Spare clothes — water play and mud happen most in summer!
🎒 What to Bring
Every child has their own permanent fixed peg at nursery — their very own space to hang their coat, waterproofs and keep their spare clothes. As a result, there is no need to bring a bag every day — simply drop everything off at the start and their peg is always there waiting for them.
- 2–3 full sets of spare clothes — including socks, underwear and trousers. Children get muddy, wet and messy — that’s a good sign!
- Named water bottle — water is available all day but a named bottle helps us keep track.
- Nappies and wipes — for babies and toddlers still in nappies. Please send enough for the day.
- Any comfort items — a favourite toy or comforter for settling in, especially for younger children.
- Any prescribed medication — clearly labelled with your child’s name and dosage instructions.
🏷️ Labelling — Really Important!
Please label every single item with your child’s name — coats, wellies, hats, water bottles, spare clothes and bags. We have many children and things get mixed up easily, especially outdoors. Iron-on labels, fabric pens or sticker labels all work well.
❌ Please Do Not Send
- Screens or devices — we are a completely screen-free nursery. No tablets, phones or handheld games please.
- Sweets, crisps or processed snacks — we provide organic wholesome snacks and meals. Outside food is not needed.
- Expensive or precious items — toys and clothing can get lost or damaged outdoors. Please save special items for home.
